Just a swangin’….

My husband has been wanting to hang this swing since summer. It was added to the To-Do list but kept getting bumped down by more important tasks.
But today everthing fell into place to get it hung…the weather was nice, we had bought new chain, and there wasn’t anything immediately pressing to get in the way.
I wanted to shoot some shots of the kids in it right away but the sun was going down and the lighting wasn’t great….and I now have it to use whenever I want!

How times change…..

Today we took the younger boys to a local pizza place for lunch. Nothing much eventful in that. Not really an eventful day either.

While we were eating I kept glancing up into the overhead lamp and thinking how out of place the pigtail lightbulb seemed. Now, I have these all through my house so I have no aversion to them (even though I watched a YouTube video about how they generate “bad energy” that can even affect one’s health….but I’ve not seen enough evidence to find an alternative source). But they just gave me an odd feeling of fake nostalgia…maybe I was just in a mood.

We love flea markets. There is just nowhere better to be reminded of things you loved from your childhood or reasons why your kids think you’re such a dork now. (“You used a phone like that??? Oh man!”)
But there are some things that you just ask yourself “why?” In any generation. For example, these clocks made from highly glossy tree slabs. I can’t even remember anyone I know having one, but I do remember seeing them at craft shows and such. But there was a booth, advertising them proud as peaches…..

And to think that I saw it on….

I just love these old street signs. They seem to have so much more character than the more modern green signs and I’m so glad the city hasn’t replaced them.

Every time I pass them I want to jump out of my car and take a picture but I’m always in a hurry to get somewhere and I tell myself “next time…”. So today I wasn’t driving and we really didn’t have anywhere specific to be, so like a crazy fool, I had to get out of the car and walk across the street just to finally get a picture.

The thing about me that drives my family crazy is that when i’m trying to solve a problem, I can get a little obsessed…..well, ok….a lot obsessed. But it usually works out great in the end.

So I wasn’t satisfied with the plain ol’ Garanimals ABC blocks….and hours upon hours of internet searching weren’t pulling up something realistically affordable. So I did what I always do and made my own version….I’m almost done with the alphabet….and then I can put them in a box and move on to something else to obsess about.

I think I’m in love…..

Yesterday, someone at the school had these little cookies and asked if I had tried them. I hadn’t but after just one I realized I had been missing out big time.
Today’s grocery trip had me scouring the cookie isle and because I didn’t know the name of them, it took me a few minutes to find them….and now my package is nearly empty.

I am a huge fan of chocolate and mint so these little disks are perfect….a crunchy Andes type taste…..I will try to avoid them in the future because I just couldn’t bring myself to share.

I’ve been on a mad hunt for the perfect blocks but couldn’t find anything like the picture I had in my head. Or, if I found something close, I didn’t want to pay $300 for a set of children’s blocks.
So, me being me, I had to figure out a way to make them just how I wanted them. My first thought was to turn to my craft paint box and hand paint them……but that would take forever and unlike my momma, I can’t even draw a stick person. My second thought was fabric covering…..but I would have to buy several different designs and I was sure I’d need a trip out of town for exactly what I wanted. Which brought me to my third idea…..why I had an almost new bottle of Modge Podge! And i’d been looking for something to use it on! It’s on my list of favorite (craft) things….. Now I’m ready to get started!

I hadn’t shot a maternity session in a while so I was pretty excited for this one. I made sure I had a supply of all the normal things seen in them.
I would have loved to have kept the warm weather we had earlier in the week so we could venture outside, but we just made do with the warm, toasty studio.

So much was going on today and I had kids going in different directions and people stopping by to say hi, so not much was accomplished workwise.

So when I found myself with an hour and a half to kill before picking up my son, the most obvious place for me to spend that time was the book store. I beloved I looked through every title and didn’t find one that stood out to me….so I left empty handed. That’s OK though….I still have a stack of unread books on my shelf.

My eight year old is definitely learning from my neurosis. On his Christmas list he posted that he wanted a package of Sharpies. When I asked him if it was just markers he was asking for, or was he specifically wanting the Sharpie brand, he stated “Well I’d really prefer Sharpies….”.

So Sharpies it was! Forward 2 weeks later and he is still keeping them in the package….and low and behold, he even keeps them in color order (mostly)! Ah, a kid after my own heart!
